So Close To Wembley!
The Boys' U11 School Football Team (with a bit of help from Ella!) represented Shrewsbury Town Football Club at the Northern Regional Final of the English Football League Kids Cup, recently in Bradford. They were an absolute credit to the football club and of course, our school. We played in five fixtures - the results were as follows:
Shrewsbury Town 2 V 4 Sheffield United
Shrewsbury Town 3 V 0 Bury
Shrewsbury Town 3 V 2 Rochdale
Shrewsbury Town 0 V 1 Bolton Wanderers
Shrewsbury Town 1 V 0 Port Vale
We finished third in a group of 6 missing out by just one point to Bolton. So close to a semi-final berth and a potential final to play in the National Final at Wembley Stadium in May, ahead of the EFL League 1 Play Off Final.
This is an amazing achievement to have got so close and, as they say in footballing circles, there's always next season!
12 girls from year 4, 5 and 6 went to the Shrewsbury Sports Village and represented Mount Pleasant Primary School in the Shropshire Challenge Cup.
The girls had been training hard every Wednesday and were looking forward to their 2nd tournament of the year.
We played four games against St Winefride's, Harlescott Junior, Greenfields and Oxon. Unfortunately we lost the first game 1-0, we lost the 2nd game 2-0, the third game we lost 1-0 and we battled hard in the final game which resulted in a 0-0 draw. All the girls were fantastic, they showed great passion, sportsmanship and team work throughout the tournament. Well done girls.
We had a great time sharing our favourite books with each other on World Book Day. We also stopped what we were doing four times during the day and just read! We loved it!
