Welcome to Porthill Class
2024-2025
⭐️ Mrs Phillpotts will be teaching in Porthill 5 days a week. Miss Bowen and Mr Northwood will be our class teaching assistants in class and they are in every day.
⭐️PE will be on a Wednesday and Friday. The children will need to bring their PE kits every Wednesday and leave them in school until Friday.
⭐️Forest school sessions are every Tuesday morning 9:30 - 10:30. Please send your child in wearing their forest school kit with their uniform in a separate bag.

⭐️ Reading books - children will receive a school book, possibly two books to support their phonics. They are able to change these reading books every Monday or when they have completed the book. Please encourage your child to read at least three times per week. They will complete a reading challenge through the year, each Monday we check reading records, if they have completed three reads they move on step along the journey towards a prize. ⭐️
⭐️ Water bottles - please ensure your child has a water bottle in school everyday.
If it is warm please ensure your child has a hat and wears suncream ⭐️

During the spring term in Science we have been learning about living things and habitats. Here is what we have learnt, there are some home learning tasks your child may enjoy doing.
In History and Geography we have been learning about Snow and Ice. In History we have been learning about the famous explorer Captain Robert Scott and his expeditions to Antarctica. In Geography we have been locating cold places on the map, learning about different climates and how animals and humans adapt. Here is what we have learnt, there are some home learning tasks your child may enjoy doing.
In Art we have been learning about primary and secondary colours and painting using textured materials
In Maths we have been learning about division
In Science we have been learning about habitats and micro habitats, we explored the forest area looking for these. We used the laptops to do some research
