Laches Wood Update 1

Welcome to the Spring term. We hope you’ve had a relaxing festive break and are ready to hit the ground

running in our new academic year. This term will be learning about the industrial revolution. We will be studying: how this period of history has had such an impact on how we live our lives today. Our lessons will investigate: when and where major changes took place; living and working conditions; the role children played in industry; important inventions of the age; and how the development of new technologies changed the political landscape.

We will start swimming on a Wednesday morning.  We will also continue with our PE on a Tuesday. Children will be focusing on badminton and orienteering. Please ensure pupils have the correct PE kit on those days.

Reading at home is very important. We expect children to read at home at least 3-5 times per week. It would be great if this reading experience is shared with an adult so that you can join in with the fun and ask questions to your child; when this takes place, please remember to make a record in their reading diary so this can count towards Mount Pleasant’s Read around Shropshire’. We also encourage your child to practise their times tables. This could be orally, or by using either of the two following websites: 1) Hit the Button or 2) Times Table Rock Stars (TTRS). Times tables are crucial as the building blocks to apply their understanding in many different areas of maths.

I hope your child is looking forward to the term ahead. There is a very high expectation placed on your child to try their best and show the ’Mount Pleasant Way’ at all times. Mistakes will always happen, friendship fallouts are guaranteed but being kind, respectful and tolerant is the minimum requirement for every child in Hotspur class. If there are any concerns with regards your child in relation to other children, please do keep an open mind at all times as there are always different perspectives —I am always readily available by email for any queries or concerns. The email for Hotspur class is: staffhotspur@mountpleasantsbmat.com. I am sure Hotspur have a great year ahead of themselves; please make sure to follow the class page for updates throughout the term.
