Message from the Governing Body
As we reach the end of the year it has given us the chance to reflect upon the year we've had and all the changes we've seen at Mount Pleasant. As Governors we give up our time to make a difference at the school, in what can be a challenging but rewarding role. For me, it has given me the opportunity to get a real understanding of the pressures that schools face and, as Link Governor with a Curriculum overview I am developing my knowledge of the school's long-term plan.
Sometimes we have to support the Head in making some difficult decisions, particularly when those are about financial savings which we know will directly impact upon children. There are also really brilliant moments when we see how well the children are progressing with their work and how hard the teachers are working to make their lessons engaging and interesting.
The skills and knowledge I am learning in my role as School Governor are also a benefit to me, both as a parent and in my working life too. I don't have a background in education so I'll often be the one asking "what does that mean?" in meetings when people start talking in jargon! We do need some additional people on the Governing body, you don't have to have a background in education but you do need to be able to commit some of your time and be curious, able to challenge and build collaborative relationships. If you want to talk more about what we do please speak to me when you see me in the playground or leave a message at the office for some more information.
